On Tuesday night one of our beloved pets passed away unexpectedly.  During necropsy it was discovered that he had been chewing the lining of his happy hut (which I knew) and swallowing it (which I didn't realize) and it had built up in his stomach over time, causing a blockage and an infection, neither of which he showed any sign of until it was too late.

If you use any fuzzy toys for your pet, specifically these soft sleeping spots, please be wary.  Check for holes and remain vigilant.  Once you lose a family member this way, they're just gone.  Now we know better, but sadly it's too late.

SO MANY PET TOYS ARE VERY DANGEROUS.  People don't realize.  We trust; we go out to the store and assume that if it's for sale for our pets, it must be safe to use for the most part.  This is notoriously untrue for bird toys, a fact that we knew (and that we are sure manufacturers know but shamefully ignore, particularly when it comes to the toxicity of the metal parts of these toys).  But our baby LOVED his sleeping spot so much that we never thought twice about purchasing it for him.  Unfortunately.  So our pet, who had a potential 40 year life span, only made it to his 3rd birthday.

Here is a photo of the offending product:

It comes in many colors, including green, blue, yellow, and purple.  There may also be other colors I haven't seen.

And here, something I wish I'd seen ages ago that may have saved my bird's life (thank you to emmil who found this for me):  www.pine4parrots.co.uk/Pages/H…  ... reviews from other people saying how much horror these huts have caused in their lives!
